AudioBoxBaby is an easy application that reads the sound from the input of the sound card and calculates its tempo to send it later via the MIDI port. One advantage of using this program is that you can see the information read per each channel (Left & Right) in the visualization window and synchronize various MIDI instruments with the audio.
Besides calculating and showing the tempo graphically, the program also displays the BPM (beats per minute) and other parameters in the status bar. You can change the sample rate, and divide or multiply the tempo read by two. You can select the MIDI device that will receive the information and adjust the beat channel, beat note, and other parameters.
Besides reading the audio from the input of the sound card, you can also use the "Stereo Mix" volume control to read any sound from the input or output of the sound card, e.g. from any music player, microphone, etc.
The are a number of downsides, however: the collected data cannot be saved in a file, the input gain cannot be adjusted, and only one note based on the tempo can be read.
